Due to damage in the roof of St Lukes, the Trans Swimming Sessions have been temporarily moved to the

Brighton Swimming Centre, Eastern Rd, Brighton

Behind the scenes, LGBT HIP, the council and Brighton’s Trans Alliance have been working hard to get a trans-only swimming pilot scheme up and running – and it has now arrived.

It may not seem like much for some people, but being able to exercise in a space where you can change, exercise, wear comfortable clothing and not have to worry about attracting unwanted attention in the changing room or shower can be a real problem for many trans people. And swimming, with its propensity for clothing that leaves little hidden, can particularly cause anxiety. But swimming is wonderful, plus it is great exercise, and easier on the joints than running and cycling.

The trans swimming sessions aim to create a safe, welcoming space for people to float, swim and splash about. There will be a bit more flexibility on what people can wear (within safety guidelines), greeters at the door and all the staff will have had trans awareness training. You don’t even need to swim on your first session, you can just visit and get a feel for the place.

Starting on Friday February 7th, the pilot scheme will run weekly, discounted swimming sessions for trans, genderqueer and gender questioning people.

8 – 9.30pm
£2.55 a session
