January 2014 – Self Portraits

18 Jan

Welcome to 2014 and thank you to everyone who has been coming along to the meetings and supporting everyone there, or visiting the facebook page and contributing there – we love both!

January is a chilly drab month (though personally I love the rain) so we thought we’d brighten it up with some self portrait painting, colouring, scribbling, sculpting and collaging.

I don’t think I was the only person who was a bit nervous faced with having to create some kind of picture of myself, but having a couple of hours with which to do nothing more than play around with paint and crayons was very calming and lovely.

We talked beforehand about how self portraits always seem to feature people’s faces, and I find this a bit odd. Does the face really best represent who the person is? What part of the self does the face reveal?
